FIFA Ultimate Team usually introduces a brand new feature every year. FIFA 16 saw the Draft Mode become the go-to for hardcore fanatics of the series. In FIFA 17, EA have introduced a new competitive game mode called FUT Champions that has everyone from pro players to newbies playing hours on end each week.
What is FUT Champions?
FUT Champions is a competitive game mode involving several different aspects. The ultimate goal of is to earn in-game Ultimate Team rewards. To earn rewards, you must play in a 40-game competition each weekend called the FUT Champions Weekend League. To earn entry, you must first qualify in one of several daily tournaments that EA Sports releases from Monday through Thursday. Keep in mind there are a limited number of attempts (around 14 or 15 usually) to win the four-game daily tournament.
What is the Weekend League exactly?
Once you’re in the actual Weekend League, the true grind begins. You have 40 games to play in three day’s time (at your own leisure) against all your fellow qualifiers. Meaning, you’re playing the best of the best after the daily tournaments have weeded out the undeserving or unskilled. You control when you play your games, and how many you play at a time, so the onus is on you to win as many of the 40 as you possibly can. The number of wins you attain in a weekend puts you in a certain tier in the FUT Champions ranking system.
The Ranking System
There are five different tiers on the ranking system, and these contain three separate levels. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Elite are the main tiers that you can earn. There’s also a Top 100 tier available for the best of the best. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Elite all contain three levels (ex. Gold 1, Gold 2, and Gold 3) that offer different rewards.
The catch with the ranking system is that you have one ranking system for the week and then a bigger system for the entire month. Where you finish determines what type of rewards you are given on a weekly and a monthly basis.
Weekly Rewards
No matter which level of the rankings you finish at after your Weekend League is over, you’re guaranteed some kind of reward. The minimum amount of games required to play is five. Once you reach that number you’ll be given a reward depending on where you finish.
The rewards are subject to change, but this is a breakdown of what every level usually pays out:
