Ask any experience FIFA Ultimate Team player and they’ll tell you that N’Golo Kante is one of the best players in this year’s game. At only 81 rated, his base gold card is used by an abnormal percentage of players, especially in the FUT Champions Weekend League.
Pace and strength are arguably the two most important attributes in this year’s installment of FIFA. If you have midfielders who possess both, you can control the middle of the field. N’Golo Kante is undoubtedly the best in the game at this.
However, at 25,000 coins not every player can afford to build their team around him and would rightfully opt to use their coins on attacking players to start off.
There’s good news to those players out there hoping to have an N’Golo Kante in their squad but don’t have the coins to do so. There is an extremely cheap alternative on the market for you to incorporate in your team.
Meet Nampalys Mendy:

Ironically from Kante’s old club Leicester City and the same nation, Mendy is exactly what you’re looking for to replicate the effectiveness of the most overpowered midfielder in the game.
Let’s take a look at the two cards side by side.

It’s clear to see that Kante is far superior as an overall player. But, you cannot ask for a better alternative and for only 500 coins, it’s an outright steal. The only noticeable decrease in stats that could hurt is Mendy’s 75 pace. If you slap a nice little Shadow or Catalyst card on him you have yourself a practical Kante clone.
Do not be fooled by his 55 rating in shooting either. He can hit long shots with the same sporadic efficiency as Kante. He also gives you the work rate and defensive prowess of N’Golo Kante without the high price tag.
Stats aren’t always the be-all-end-all when it comes to players. It’s all about how they perform in-game. If you’re just starting FIFA or just need to build a budget team, you cannot find a better and more effective midfielder than Mendy. With the threat of a market crash incoming for Team of the Year, I’ll be using him in my Weekend League team this weekend without any hesitation.
