EA Sports FIFA 17 Community Manager Rob Hodson dropped bombshell news on the Ultimate Team community late Sunday.
As many were finishing up another grind of The Weekend League and others snagged the last Double Chance lightning round packs of Team of the Year 2017, Rob unveiled details of an update we should see coming to FUT (and FIFA in general) later this week:
Hey FIFA Fans,
The fourth title update for FIFA 17 will be available on PC after the close of the current weekend league. Details on other platforms will be provided as it becomes available.
Addressed the following in FIFA Ultimate team:
— Displaying correct kit on the player in the kit select screen.
— Players will no longer be able to set custom player positions in Team Management during gameplay.
— An issue in Squad Building Challenges where switching a higher rated player with a lower rated player resulted in the overall squad rating going up.
— Removed Est. Date, Crest and Squad Name from the FUT Champions matchup screen.
— Changed the latency bar graphic to give more detail on connection quality.
Addressed the following in Career Mode:
— An issue where the current weekly wages from the budget tab do not properly reflect the actual weekly wages.
Visual / Presentation changes:
— Improved camera selection for slow motion goal replays.
— Addressed EATV buffering.
— Addressed audio balance of French commentators.
— Gameplay commentator language for The Journey now defaults to language selected in Game Settings.
Addressed the following in gameplay:
— Adjusted the defensive line position for low pressure tactics.
— Addressed an issue where a pass was made without a button press.
Thanks to those who’ve provided feedback on Twitter, Facebook, and the EA Forums. Throughout the course of the FIFA 17 season we’ll provide you with more information and updates if and when they become available.
The biggest news is obviously the removal of some of the snags of matchmaking in FUT Champions. As those that play in the competition know all too well — particularly those that played FUT since the beginning and have the designation of FUT Founders — back outs happen way too often. This would seem to be a step in the right direction to mitigate those.
The fix of the reportedly once fixed but never actually sorted kit selection glitch at matchmaking of online games and the removal of custom formations in-game (which were a go to staple of shameless Park-The-Bus types) also sent ripples through the FIFA community:
Custom formations are going!

We’re personally most curious what the revised matchmaking screen will look like. Perhaps more like the Seasons matchmaking screen in non-FUT which has less personally identifiable information and once you’re in you can’t back out of.
Regardless of what you think about some of the growing pains of arguably the best FIFA in years, Title Update 4 sounds like very welcome news for the game’s most hardcore players.
