‘Msdossary7’ tops ‘FifantomCR’ in the Rest of World Vancouver Regional Final

He’s the second Saudi Arabian to win the ROW regionals.

Xbox One bracket winner Mossad ‘Msdossary7’ Aldossary beat PS4 winner Shun ‘FifantomCR’ Okabe, the Japanese FIFA Champion, by a 4-2 aggregate scoreline in sunny Whistler, British Columbia on Friday to win the Rest of World Vancouver Regional Final and take home a pot of 30,000 dollars.

Additionally, the Saudi Arabian becomes the second in a row to win a Rest of World Regional Final. In Sydney, Khalid ‘xX ThE RoYaL Xx’ Aloufi mounted an incredible three-goal comeback (on his non-native console) to beat his fellow countryman Abdulaziz ‘MrD0ne’ Alshehri. On Friday, however, Aldossary didn’t need to come from behind.

Aldossary went up early in the first leg, which was played on his preferred Xbox One console. He lead 2-0 after the first 45 minutes through two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo. In the second half, Ronaldo completed the hat-trick in the 56th minute to effectively put the match to bed.

FifantomCR struck back just two minutes later, with a goal from his Ronaldo, securing a crucial ‘away goal’ off his native PS4 console.

In the second leg, the first half ended at a timid 0-0. Aldossary, who had put so much attacking pressure on his opponent in the first leg, won the mental battle through relentless possession (Pep Guardiola would’ve been proud) and stymied any attack from Okabe. At one point, one of the commentators blurted out “Fifantom can’t score, if he doesn’t have the ball in the first place!”

Eventually, Okabe couldn’t handle the pressure. Aldossary ended any semblance of a comeback with a goal from Marcelo in the 67th minute. Even though he pulled one back, there was no chance. He becomes the fourth straight Xbox One champion to win the cross-console Grand Final.

Both console champions reached the finals without losing a single game; Aldossary won all seven of his matchups, while Okabe only tied with Ronnie Yau in the group stages. Of course, even though Okabe ended up losing to Aldossary, both champions have already locked up a place at the Berlin Ultimate Team Championship finals, which brings together 32 of the best FIFA Ultimate Team players in the world to battle each other in an effort to be reach FIFA glory and be crowned as the Ultimate Champion.

As always, 16 of the 32 competitors made it to the second round after playing three matches (one against each opponent) in their respective groups. Here’s a look at how the group standings finished:

Perhaps the most interesting story from the Sydney regionals was Honurbly Airbrn’s shockingly average team, the same team he uses in his Weekend League matches. He made it farther than anyone thought he would, but this time, he switched to a ‘God-squad’ and it paid off. He won two of his three, only losing to IBrave Heart Z, who won that group.

Group 2, in the Xbox One category, was super tight with three players tying with five points and ultimately the top two going through on goal differential. ChelChel100, an interesting player, was consistent throughout the group stages; he’s the first player ever to sign to a professional eSports team for FIFA in Asia.

On PS4, nobody in the first two groups went 3-0-0. Sarge_FIFA, one of the returners from Season One tried to make an impact early, but he went out to Baby Justinlaw and InfamousShadow90. S_O_N_Y, who was the PS4 runner-up in Sydney, was clinical as ever as ran his group to the tune of seven points, en route to finishing unbeaten.

Knockout Round

The Knockout Round was a bit of a different story. Here are the final brackets from both Xbox One and PS4:

Honurbly Airbrn failed to win a single game in the knockouts, first going down to the loser’s bracket on penalties, and losing 1-0 to XXJaamiieXX despite playing with his newly overpowered squad.

Obviously, the biggest story from the XB1 division was Msdossary7 rolling over anyone he came across, winning all four of his elimination games by a margin of at least three goals. Jetmrken put up (somewhat?) of a fight in the winner’s bracket; Dossary won 3-0 in the first, and repeated the same scoreline after Jet came back from winning the consolation bracket.

PS4

PS4 was almost the same, except for the huge upset of S_O_N_Y from the eventual PS4 winner, FIFANTOMCR. The former made it all the way to the PS4 console final in Sydney, however on Friday, he lost on penalties to the latter and then went out to ChelChel100, 3-0 in the loser’s bracket.

Here’s a quick reminder that the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Regional Finals will be back tomorrow, Saturday the 22nd at 11:45 a.m. ET. You can watch/stream it on both on Twitch and YouTube. The Regional Grand Final will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. ET.
